Conference Poles in the Middle East 2021

We cordially invite you to participate in the conference "Poles in the Middle East" co-organized by the Center of Mediterranean Archeology of the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Archeology of the University of Warsaw. The program includes over 50 presentations by researchers from various national and foreign centers, including a panel on the archeology of Cyprus, in which members of our project will present their research!

Conference Poles in the Middle East 2021

The first day of the conference focuses on the archeology of Cyprus in the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The session will be preceded by an inaugural Prof. John Lund lecture entitled„Cypriots and Cypriot connectivity in the Hellenistic and Roman Periods: A diachronic perspective

Prof. John Lund is the curator of the Collection of Classical and Middle Eastern Art at the National Museum of Denmark. He participated in excavations and surface surveys in Tunisia, Cyprus and Greece, and collaborated with the project "Pot, Potters and Society in Ancient Greece". The main topics of his research interests are the Phoenician / Punic civilization, Cyprus and northern Syria in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, as well as transport amphoras and the history of Danish research in the field of classical archeology.

On the second day, there will be a session focusing on the results of research in Iran and neighboring countries, as well as the first part of the session on prehistoric and pre-classical archeology in the area of Oman, as well as Mesopotamia and the Levant, and their contacts with Egypt about Egea.

The early periods session will continue on the third day of the conference. It will be followed by a session on the Antiquity in the Levant, and finally, in a panel on the archeology of the Islamic period, papers will be presented mainly on research in the Arabian Peninsula.

The conference will be held remotely on the Zoom platform. It is available to all comers after prior registration.

The presentations will be held in English or Polish
