
On October 26, 2021, at the building of the Archaeological Museum in Athens, a ceremony was held on the occasion of the opening of the Polish Archaeological Institute in Athens (PIAA).
PIAA was created thanks to an agreement signed by the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań (UAM) Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Rzeszów, University of Warsaw and University of Wrocław. "
At official ceremonies, the Jagiellonian University was represented by: Vice-Deans, prof. Stanisław Sprawski and prof. Judyta Rodzińska-Nowak and prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka who is the deputy director of PIAA and a member of the Scientific Council and the Partner Council. Vice-Dean prof. Stanisław Sprawski, who also represented the Rector of the Jagiellonian University and handed the Ambassador a congratulatory letter from the Rector of the Jagiellonian University, prof. dr. hab. Jacek Popiel.
Before the opening at the National Museum, a ceremony of awarding prof. G. Kokkorou-Alevras from the University of Athens with Polish high state decoration - Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit, for many years of developing Polish-Greek scientific cooperation with the Jagiellonian University. The decoration at the PIAA headquarters was presented by Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk.
